DMK president M.K. Stalin urged the Tamil Nadu government and law enforcement agencies to conduct an impartial investigation into the tragic death of IIT Madras student Fathima Latheef, asserting that serious questions raised by her grieving parents preclude dismissing the case as a routine suicide. Stalin highlighted that the victim's family had produced specific notes naming faculty members allegedly responsible for driving her to despair, demanding that the police act without fear or favour.
Stalin stated that the state administration must demonstrate that it stands firmly on the side of justice by immediately apprehending the individuals named in connection with the case. Delaying necessary arrests and treating serious allegations casually only deepens public suspicion of an institutional cover-up designed to shield influential academic figures. He stressed that tears shed by bereaved parents must be answered with transparent investigative findings and strict statutory accountability.
The opposition leader warned that the DMK will not remain silent while higher education authorities attempt to evade responsibility for campus harassment. Stalin affirmed that law enforcement must protect the integrity of the probe from external political pressure, ensuring that every perpetrator faces appropriate legal prosecution in court.
