DMK president M.K. Stalin expressed hope that newly elected Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa will recognize Tamil citizens as equal stakeholders possessing full constitutional rights across the island nation. Following the conclusion of Sri Lanka's presidential election, Stalin issued a statement urging the incoming administration to govern with a clear conscience, genuine humanity, and an unwavering commitment to democratic equality. He noted that the Tamil population has endured systemic hardship and displacement over multiple decades.
Stalin stressed that genuine political reconciliation and lasting peace in Sri Lanka remain impossible without devolving meaningful powers and securing dignity for Tamil communities. The DMK expects the newly installed leadership in Colombo to discard oppressive majoritarian policies and actively implement constitutional safeguards ensuring land rights, civil liberties, and socio-economic empowerment. Protecting Tamil cultural heritage, administrative autonomy, and personal security must form the cornerstone of any progressive governing agenda.
Reaffirming the DMK's steadfast commitment to the welfare of Eelam Tamils, Stalin called upon the international community and the Union Government to remain vigilant. He insisted that diplomatic channels must ensure that Sri Lanka's governance strictly adheres to international human rights standards.
