DMK president M.K. Stalin criticized the AIADMK government for cynical political opportunism in suspending its steep property tax hike only on the eve of local body elections. Stalin recalled that when ordinary citizens and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam organized widespread public demonstrations demanding tax relief, the state administration remained completely indifferent, forcibly extracting exorbitant tax amounts from residents. He pointed out that freezing the tax hike only when facing imminent electoral accountability exposes total governing insincerity.
Stalin insisted that merely withholding future collections is entirely insufficient for hundreds of thousands of urban property owners who had already been coerced into paying inflated rates. He demanded that the government immediately issue bank cheques or direct cash refunds to return the surplus property tax and inflated drinking water charges collected from citizens. Withholding excess public money while claiming credit for a temporary policy freeze represents deceitful administrative exploitation.
Stalin asserted that the municipal administration has a moral and statutory duty to reimburse every overburdened household without bureaucratic delay. He reaffirmed that the DMK will persistently champion urban taxpayers' rights and hold the ruling dispensation fully accountable for arbitrary civic tariff hikes.
