DMK president M.K. Stalin sharply criticized the central government for glaring political hypocrisy in orchestrating nationwide celebrations for Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary while simultaneously starving the landmark rural employment scheme bearing his name. Stalin emphasized that honoring Mahatma Gandhi requires steadfast commitment to rural self-reliance and the welfare of grassroots agrarian laborers rather than organizing hollow ceremonial events. Neglecting statutory wage allocations undermines the very core of Gandhian village development ideals.
Stalin highlighted the acute hardships faced by poor rural workers who completed demanding manual labor under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act but remained unpaid for months. He pointed out that depriving agricultural laborers and women workers of their earned wages pushes vulnerable rural households into debt and hunger. The central and state administrations have an inescapable legal duty to ensure that wage payments are deposited directly into beneficiaries' bank accounts without delay.
Stalin demanded that both governments immediately release all necessary budgetary funds and settle all outstanding wage arrears across Tamil Nadu's rural districts. He affirmed that the DMK will relentlessly champion the rights of rural working-class families until every laborer receives their earned compensation.
