On #ConstitutionDay, I remember the authors of our Constitution.
Few days ago, I moved a Special Resolution in the DMK General Council highlighting federalism, and on this day, I urge the Union Government to amend the Constitution to restore the balance between Centre & States. https://t.co/MbGemOj5hU

DMK president M.K. Stalin paid tribute to the framers of the Indian Constitution on Constitution Day, revering their vision of building a secular, egalitarian, and federal republic. Recalling his recent initiative moving a special resolution at the DMK General Council meeting, Stalin highlighted the urgent necessity to revitalize federal principles and restore the constitutional equilibrium between the Union and the states. He emphasized that genuine democracy flourishes only when regional states enjoy meaningful legislative, fiscal, and administrative autonomy.
Stalin called upon the Union Government to introduce comprehensive constitutional amendments aimed at correcting the creeping centralization of state powers. He pointed out that over successive decades, key subjects such as education, taxation, and regulatory governance have been steadily shifted toward central control, leaving state governments fiscally constrained and administratively weakened. Restoring subjects to the State List is crucial to ensure that elected regional administrations can effectively respond to localized aspirations.
Stalin reaffirmed that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has historically led the ideological vanguard for state autonomy and cooperative federalism in India. He pledged that the party will continue building nationwide consensus to ensure that constitutional amendments are enacted to protect state rights and democratic decentralization.
