DMK president M.K. Stalin voiced serious concern over the steep, unchecked escalation in onion prices across Tamil Nadu and the country, noting that daily market retail rates had climbed to punishing levels for ordinary working-class households. Stalin observed that onions represent an indispensable dietary staple for millions of families, and unchecked price volatility severely strains domestic budgets. He condemned the central and state governments for failing to foresee supply shortages and allowing hoarding and market speculation to flourish unchecked.

Stalin urged the government to recognize the essential nature of basic food items and implement constructive, decisive market interventions immediately. He demanded that state cooperative agencies and public distribution networks procure buffer stocks directly from producing centers and open subsidized vegetable stalls to supply onions at affordable rates to citizens. Proactive monitoring of wholesale traders and stringent action against illegal hoarding are necessary to stabilize open market prices.

Stalin announced that DMK members of Parliament will forcefully raise the issue of kitchen commodity inflation in both houses of Parliament to compel Union action. He reaffirmed the DMK's unwavering commitment to defending consumer welfare and agrarian interests against administrative apathy.
