DMK president M.K. Stalin voiced deep shock and unequivocal condemnation over remarks made by Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in an interview published by The Hindu English daily. Stalin observed that the interview revealed a dangerous mindset that explicitly divides citizens along majoritarian and minoritarian lines. He emphasized that such polarizing discourse exposes an authoritarian governing philosophy that directly contradicts democratic principles and fundamental human equality.
Stalin pointed out that reducing citizens to disparate majorities and minorities undermines the essential fabric of multi-ethnic coexistence, pluralism, and institutional justice. In post-war Sri Lanka, where Tamil minorities have endured decades of violent dispossession, systemic marginalization, and denial of fundamental political rights, such divisive presidential statements severely damage prospects for genuine national reconciliation. True statesmanship requires fostering inclusive constitutional safeguards and equal citizenship rights rather than perpetuating ethnic domination.
Stalin called upon the international community and the Indian Union Government to hold the Sri Lankan leadership accountable to international human rights standards. He reaffirmed that the DMK will persistently champion the civil rights, political dignity, and autonomous aspirations of Sri Lankan Tamils across all global forums.
