DMK president M.K. Stalin conveyed profound sorrow following the tragic death of eighteen Indian workers, including several Tamils, in a devastating ceramic factory blast in Khartoum, Sudan. Expressing deep sympathy to the bereaved families, Stalin characterized the industrial catastrophe as deeply heartbreaking for communities across Tamil Nadu. Many migrant labourers from southern districts had travelled abroad to secure basic livelihood support for their families back home.
Stalin announced that DMK parliamentary party leader T.R. Baalu personally contacted Union External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to demand urgent governmental intervention. The representation urged the Union Government to establish immediate consular channels to identify deceased victims, provide specialized medical treatment to injured survivors, and expedite the repatriation of mortal remains. Stalin called upon central authorities to act without delay in coordinating with Sudanese officials to safeguard affected Indian citizens.
He reiterated that central and state administrations must extend comprehensive relief packages, immediate ex-gratia payments, and compassionate assistance to grieving next of kin. Stalin affirmed that the DMK will persistently track diplomatic relief measures until every distressed worker receives appropriate consular aid and humane support.
