DMK president M.K. Stalin expressed severe condemnation of the ruling AIADMK government for displaying shocking complacency after the Union Bharatiya Janata Party government refused to disburse statutory Goods and Services Tax compensation dues to states, citing inadequate revenue collections. Stalin emphasized that the central government's unilateral refusal to honor statutory revenue commitments directly violates the legal guarantees provided to state legislatures during the implementation of the GST constitutional amendment.
Stalin noted that states surrendered significant tax sovereignty by subsuming regional commercial levies into the unified GST structure, based on solemn constitutional promises of guaranteed revenue growth and compensation. Withholding these mandatory disbursements severely damages state financial health, paralyzing municipal allocations, rural development, and social welfare programs across Tamil Nadu. Instead of uniting with other affected states to challenge central high-handedness, the AIADMK regime maintained total subservience, failing to demand the state's legitimate fiscal dues.
Stalin demanded that the state administration break its silence and strongly press the Centre for immediate compensation release. He affirmed that the DMK will continue to fight for state fiscal rights, federal balance, and equitable revenue sharing between the Centre and states.
