DMK president M.K. Stalin demanded the immediate and unconditional release of 82-year-old Member of Parliament and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah, who had been detained under the stringent Public Safety Act. Stalin characterized the prolonged detention of the veteran parliamentarian as deeply shameful to India's democratic traditions and utterly disrespectful of constitutional values. He stressed that holding a former Union Cabinet Minister without legitimate legal basis constitutes blatant political victimization by central authorities.

Stalin highlighted that Abdullah has dedicated decades of his life to public service, championing mainstream democratic processes and representing the people of Kashmir in Parliament. Depriving an elderly elected representative of his fundamental liberty under preventive detention statutes illustrates the central government's authoritarian intolerance toward political dissent. Such coercive actions undermine democratic norms and damage federal relationships between New Delhi and regional leaderships across the country.

Stalin called upon the Union administration to restore normalcy, respect democratic liberties, and immediately revoke the detention orders against Abdullah and other detained political leaders in Kashmir. He affirmed that the DMK will persistently advocate for civil liberties and constitutional rights nationwide.
