Editorial context

DMK president M.K. Stalin expressed profound shock and indignation after disturbing visuals surfaced showing violent police crackdowns and brutal assaults on protesting students inside the campuses of Jamia Millia Islamia in New Delhi and Aligarh Muslim University in Uttar Pradesh. Stalin stated that the unprovoked use of excessive force against unarmed university youths constitutes an intolerable violation of human rights and educational sanctity. He asserted that every drop of blood spilled on university grounds will demand strict institutional accountability.

Stalin noted that students across premier educational institutions were exercising their constitutional right to express peaceful democratic dissent against the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act. Unleashing tear gas, baton charges, and police incursions into campus libraries and hostels illustrates dangerous authoritarian high-handedness. Instead of initiating constructive dialogue with agitated young scholars who fear for the nation's secular future, the Union Bharatiya Janata Party government deployed repressive police measures to terrorize campus communities.

Stalin demanded that the central government immediately halt police violence against student demonstrators and reconsider the divisive citizenship statute. He reaffirmed the DMK's steadfast solidarity with students across India fighting courageously to preserve constitutional democracy and civil liberties.
