DMK president M.K. Stalin announced that a consultative meeting of all opposition political parties resolved to organize a massive protest demonstration in Chennai on December 23 at ten in the morning to oppose the Citizenship Amendment Act. Stalin appealed to people from all walks of life, including political parties, university students, youth, and the general public, to rise above narrow partisan interests and join the march in large numbers to defend constitutional principles.

Stalin explained that the meeting, convened at Anna Arivalayam, brought together leaders of various political organizations who unanimously agreed that the newly enacted citizenship statute poses an existential threat to India's secular fabric. By deliberately excluding Muslims and ignoring the long-standing grievances of Sri Lankan Tamil refugees, the central legislation violates foundational constitutional guarantees of equality. A united statewide demonstration remains essential to demonstrate Tamil Nadu's collective rejection of sectarian governance.

Stalin stated that the planned Chennai procession will serve as a peaceful and resolute expression of democratic dissent. He emphasized that the DMK and its allies will continue to lead public resistance until the Union government repeals the discriminatory citizenship amendments.
