DMK president M.K. Stalin called upon the Union Government to immediately withdraw the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act, pointing to the severe international diplomatic fallout and widespread global condemnation triggered by the law. Stalin highlighted that the scheduled summit meeting in Guwahati between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe had to be abruptly cancelled due to violent unrest in the northeastern region. In addition, senior ministers from neighboring Bangladesh called off scheduled official visits to India.
Stalin noted that premier international bodies, human rights organizations, and over 1,067 distinguished global scientists and scholars issued stern condemnations against the enactment. He observed that introducing sectarian criteria into citizenship legislation damaged India's historic standing as a tolerant secular democracy on the world stage. Instead of enhancing national prestige, the central administration's reckless legislative move isolated the country diplomatically and caused severe instability across strategic border regions.
Stalin urged the central government to heed global concerns and widespread domestic protests before irreparable damage is inflicted on India's international relationships. He reiterated that the DMK will persistently demand the complete rollback of discriminatory citizenship legislation.
