DMK president M.K. Stalin issued a scathing condemnation of the AIADMK administration following the unlawful arrest of six young individuals by city police in Besant Nagar, Chennai. The individuals had peacefully expressed their opposition to the Citizenship Amendment Act by drawing traditional Tamil flour kolams incorporating protest slogans. Stalin remarked that the authoritarian excesses of the ruling regime were escalating daily, noting that the substandard administration headed by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami refuses to permit even the most basic fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution of India.
Stalin pointed out that arresting peaceful citizens for decorating streets with non-violent artistic messages exposes the government's utter contempt for civil liberties and democratic norms. Instead of directing law enforcement resources toward curbing violent crimes, drug trafficking, or corruption, the state police were deployed to detain young women and artists drawing flour designs on public walkways.
Stalin stated that such high-handed policing represents an alarming descent into administrative fascism. He demanded the immediate release of the detained individuals and affirmed that the DMK legal wing will protect citizens against state-sponsored intimidation and arbitrary prosecution.
