Editorial context

DMK president M.K. Stalin strongly condemned the high-handed harassment of municipal commissioner Akbar Ali by AIADMK leaders during an official government function in Pudukkottai. State minister C. Vijayabaskar, alongside a ruling party legislator and local party functionaries, publicly berated and insulted the government official on stage because he refused to manipulate rural local body election counting to conceal DMK victories. Stalin characterized the public humiliation of an impartial civil servant as an outrageous assault on bureaucratic integrity and democratic norms.

Stalin observed that this blatant intimidation exposes the ruling party's desperation after voters across rural districts rejected their candidates. Unable to secure legitimate democratic endorsements, AIADMK leaders deployed coercive tactics against returning officers to overturn lawful electoral verdicts. Targetting administrative officials who strictly adhere to statutory counting protocols illustrates how ruling politicians compromise institutional autonomy to preserve partisan dominance.

Stalin demanded immediate executive and judicial protection for electoral officials carrying out statutory duties without political bias. He warned that public servants must not be made scapegoats for ruling party defeats, affirming that the DMK will legally confront such administrative intimidation.
