DMK president M.K. Stalin extended centenary greetings to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly on behalf of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, commemorating the inauguration of the first provincial autonomous legislature on January 12, 1921. Stalin noted that the establishment of the Madras Legislative Council under the Justice Party laid the historic groundwork for representative governance, reservation policies, women's enfranchisement, and administrative self-rule across southern India.
Stalin affirmed that the hundred-year journey of the legislature reflects the enduring spirit of social emancipation and institutional democracy. He pointed out that early pioneering legislations enacted in this chamber reshaped public education, communal representation, and civil rights. As the centenary milestone marks the transition into a new legislative era, Stalin pledged that the DMK will systematically overhaul assembly functioning to restore dignified debate, transparency, and legislative supremacy.
Stalin declared that a revived Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly will serve as an exemplar for parliamentary democracy throughout the country. He emphasized that elected legislatures must function as authentic instruments of people's sovereignty rather than subservient tools of executive convenience. Stalin resolved to uphold the progressive heritage of the historic institution.
