DMK president M.K. Stalin criticized the Tamil Nadu government for failing to announce the annual Thanthai Periyar Award, instituted by the Tamil Development Department. Addressing the sudden silence from official quarters, Stalin questioned whether the incumbent administration found no eligible recipients across the state, or deliberately withheld the prestigious honor to appease political masters in New Delhi. He pointed out that during the previous cycle, the award went to an AIADMK party functionary, yet this year witnessed complete bureaucratic paralysis.
Stalin recalled that Periyar E.V. Ramasamy represents the intellectual fountainhead of modern Tamil society, rationalism, self-respect, and caste abolition. Diluting or neglecting official recognitions dedicated to Periyar betrays the foundational values of the Dravidian renaissance. He asserted that an administration subservient to central authorities inevitably compromises regional cultural integrity and social justice landmarks.
Stalin demanded that the state government immediately finalize and publish the recipient list without ideological hesitation or political subservience. He stressed that official literary and reformist awards must honor genuine merit rather than partisan conveniences. Stalin reiterated that the DMK will persistently guard Periyar's legacy from deliberate erasure or bureaucratic disregard.
