#Hydrocarbon
DMK president M.K. Stalin dismissed Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami's letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding hydrocarbon exploration as a deceptive political gimmick designed to mislead delta farmers. Stalin pointed out that when the Prime Minister repeatedly ignored two unanimous legislative assembly resolutions opposing the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, relying on a routine administrative letter to stop hydrocarbon extraction was sheer pretense. He challenged the Chief Minister to demonstrate genuine political courage by immediately convening the state cabinet and passing a binding resolution prohibiting all hydrocarbon exploration across Tamil Nadu.
Stalin observed that fertile delta districts like Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, and Nagapattinam constitute the food bowl of Tamil Nadu. Converting productive paddy fields into toxic oil exploration basins threatens to poison groundwater reserves, displace rural farming communities, and destroy food security. He recalled that the AIADMK government previously facilitated preliminary exploration permits, making cosmetic letters an insult to protesting farmers.
Stalin demanded that the state administration declare the Cauvery delta a Protected Agricultural Zone through statutory legislation. He affirmed that the DMK will persistently stand with delta farmers until all exploratory permits are permanently revoked.
