Editorial context

DMK president M.K. Stalin strongly condemned the punitive transfer and forced voluntary retirement application of senior IAS officer Santhosh Babu, who served as Principal Secretary of Information Technology. Stalin revealed that the upright bureaucrat was targeted because he refused to alter tender conditions or accommodate political interference in the massive 2,441-crore rupee BharatNet optical fiber connectivity project. He demanded an immediate, comprehensive probe by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption into the corrupt manipulation of public infrastructure contracts by ministers in the AIADMK administration.

Stalin highlighted that honest and dedicated civil servants are systematically intimidated, marginalized, and coerced whenever they resist illegal commercial pressures from corrupt executive authorities. Tampering with large-scale digital connectivity tenders not only wastes public funds but also denies reliable high-speed internet infrastructure to thousands of village panchayats across rural Tamil Nadu. He asserted that Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami cannot evade accountability for creating a toxic administrative climate where integrity is punished and cronyism rewarded.

Stalin urged independent oversight institutions to review all recent digital infrastructure procurements. He affirmed that public tenders must strictly adhere to transparent, competitive procedures. Stalin pledged that all corrupt administrative manipulations will be investigated when the DMK assumes office.
