DMK president M.K. Stalin welcomed the Tamil Nadu government's decision to scrap the proposed public board examinations for students of classes five and eight, noting that the DMK had consistently opposed this regressive measure from its inception. Stalin pointed out that the AIADMK administration initially ignored widespread appeals from child psychologists, teachers, and parents, before belatedly conceding to intense public and opposition pressure. He emphasized that subjecting young elementary schoolchildren to high-stakes board examinations creates severe academic trauma, increases dropout rates, and punishes rural students.
Stalin stated that while this administrative reversal provides immense relief to millions of young students and their families, the state government must maintain an equally firm stance against the Union government's draft National Education Policy. The NEP contains multiple centralization provisions, early screening tests, and entrance hurdles that threaten equitable educational access and social justice. He urged the state administration to abandon its habit of blind subservience to central directives and officially reject the NEP framework.
Stalin affirmed that progressive pedagogy must prioritize creative learning, student well-being, and accessible neighborhood schooling over commercialized examinations. He reiterated the DMK's commitment to protecting inclusive public education in Tamil Nadu.
