DMK president M.K. Stalin strongly criticized the AIADMK and its ruling alliance for deliberately deceiving the public regarding dual citizenship for Sri Lankan Tamil refugees. Stalin pointed to an explicit statement made in Parliament by Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai, who confirmed that Article 9 of the Indian Constitution strictly prohibits dual citizenship. Stalin emphasized that this authoritative ministerial clarification completely exposes the hollow, dishonest promises repeatedly propagated by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami to defend his party's support for the Citizenship Amendment Act.
Stalin recalled that whenever democratic forces demanded the unconditional inclusion of Sri Lankan Tamil refugees in the CAA framework, AIADMK leaders falsely claimed they were negotiating dual citizenship with New Delhi. In reality, the state government collaborated in disenfranchising hundreds of thousands of Tamil refugees who have resided peacefully in refugee camps across Tamil Nadu for decades. Stalin characterized this persistent deception as a shameful betrayal of the global Tamil community and basic humanitarian justice.
Stalin demanded that the state government apologize for misleading the public and pass an official legislative resolution demanding permanent Indian citizenship for Sri Lankan refugees. He affirmed that the DMK will persistently champion their legitimate civil rights.
