DMK president M.K. Stalin expressed profound shock over official data released by the Union Human Resource Development Ministry, which revealed that school dropout rates among ninth and tenth-grade students in Tamil Nadu had doubled within three years. Stalin stated that these alarming statistical findings comprehensively expose the falsity of the AIADMK administration's repeated claims regarding educational progress and low attrition. He criticized the state government for misleading the public with fabricated figures while public school infrastructure and student retention steadily deteriorated.
Stalin pointed out that secondary school dropout spikes disproportionately impact children from economically disadvantaged rural households, scheduled communities, and daily wage families. When government schools suffer from severe teacher shortages, lack of basic laboratory amenities, and inadequate welfare support, vulnerable students are pushed out of formal education into early informal labor. He emphasized that Tamil Nadu's historical legacy of universal education, pioneered by Dravidian leaders, has been undermined by administrative apathy and neglected budgets.
Stalin urged the state education department to conduct an immediate district-level dropout audit and implement robust nutritional, financial, and academic retention interventions. He affirmed that quality public schooling remains non-negotiable for social mobility. Stalin pledged that the DMK will restore educational excellence across Tamil Nadu.
