Invoking Public Safety Act against these leaders is high-handed, anti-democratic and anti-federal.

DMK president M.K. Stalin strongly condemned the continued incarceration of prominent elected Kashmiri political leaders, including former Chief Ministers Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah, and Mehbooba Mufti. Stalin characterized their prolonged detention without formal trial as an egregious blot on India's constitutional rule of law. He described the Union government's arbitrary decision to invoke the draconian Public Safety Act against experienced parliamentarians as thoroughly high-handed, blatantly anti-democratic, and deeply anti-federal in character and intent.
Stalin observed that treating mainstream political leaders who participated in constitutional governance as public threats represents an alarming abuse of executive authority. Detaining senior statesmen under preventive detention laws designed for criminal offenders subverts democratic accountability and alienates local citizenry. He emphasized that the DMK, with its deep historical commitment to state autonomy and civil liberties, will never remain silent when the federal rights of any constituent state or territory are dismantled by central fiat.
Stalin demanded the immediate revocation of all preventive detention orders against Kashmiri political figures and called for an open political process. He stated that institutional trust cannot be built through administrative coercion. Stalin affirmed that India's democracy survives only through justice and federal respect.
