DMK president M.K. Stalin conveyed his appreciation to Union External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar for providing timely official updates regarding Indian nationals quarantined aboard the cruise ship Diamond Princess docked off Yokohama in Japan. Several Indian crew members and passengers, including individuals from Tamil Nadu, were placed under strict medical quarantine by Japanese health authorities. Stalin commended the initial diplomatic outreach while highlighting the urgent need for sustained consular care.

Stalin expressed hope that Indian Embassy officials in Tokyo will proactively extend comprehensive legal, psychological, and medical support to all quarantined Indian nationals on the ship. He emphasized that individuals stranded in isolated conditions aboard a cruise ship face acute anxiety, health uncertainties, and logistical distress. Providing access to quality healthcare, Indian meals, and legal assistance is vital to ensure their physical well-being and moral reassurance during this quarantine period.

Stalin also urged the Ministry of External Affairs to establish a dedicated communication channel to provide constant and timely information to the anxious families of crew members back home. He reiterated that the safety of Indian citizens abroad is a national responsibility. Stalin reaffirmed that prompt diplomatic engagement and empathetic communication will provide immense relief to distressed families.
