DMK president M.K. Stalin strongly criticized the AIADMK government for rampant hypocrisy in its state alcohol policy, pointing out that more than 2,000 new TASMAC liquor shops had been opened over the preceding three years, with plans to establish 200 more. Stalin highlighted the stark contradiction between the ruling party's electoral promises of implementing phased liquor prohibition and its actual administrative practice of expanding alcohol outlets across residential neighborhoods and rural areas.
Stalin observed that the ruling regime displayed a deceitful double standard by making pious speeches regarding temperance inside the Legislative Assembly and public forums while aggressively expanding retail liquor sales to maximize state revenues. He stressed that unbridled alcohol availability had wrecked impoverished families, impoverished daily wage earners, and increased domestic violence against women. Stalin pointed out that relying on liquor trade as the primary source of state revenue reflects flawed economic planning.
Stalin demanded that the government immediately halt the opening of new liquor outlets, shut down shops operating near schools, temples, and residential areas, and fulfill its promise of phased prohibition. He called for alternative revenue generation strategies centered on industrial growth. Stalin concluded that the DMK remains committed to eradicating alcoholism and restoring social welfare.
