DMK president M.K. Stalin announced that a high-level parliamentary delegation representing the Secular Progressive Alliance met President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan to officially submit over 2.05 crore citizen signatures gathered across Tamil Nadu against the Citizenship Amendment Act, National Population Register, and National Register of Citizens. Stalin stated that the massive signature petition represented a historic democratic mandate reflecting the collective resolve of Tamil Nadu citizens to defend secularism and constitutional harmony.
In his comprehensive letter submitted alongside the signatures, Stalin conveyed the deep anxieties felt by diverse communities regarding the divisive nature of the citizenship legislation. He noted that millions of citizens from every walk of life—including students, farmers, laborers, and intellectuals—participated enthusiastically in the signature drive conducted across every district. Stalin stressed that this massive democratic expression demonstrated that the people of Tamil Nadu reject religious discrimination in citizenship laws.
Stalin urged the President of India to use his high constitutional authority to advise the Union government to withdraw the discriminatory measures. He commended the parliamentarians for effectively carrying the state's message to New Delhi. Stalin reaffirmed that the DMK will persistently defend the secular foundations of the republic.
