DMK president M.K. Stalin strongly condemned the Chennai city police for arresting DMK South District functionaries led by legislator and former Chennai Mayor Ma. Subramanian. The party cadres had staged an on-site demonstration by stepping into the Adyar River to expose the structural defects of the retaining flood wall being built by the Public Works Department. Stalin praised the activists for their courageous, peaceful civic agitation aimed at preventing catastrophic urban flooding.

Chennai endured devastating inundations along the Adyar river basin during the 2015 floods due to administrative negligence and compromised infrastructure. Stalin pointed out that constructing flawed, faulty retaining walls using inferior materials and weak foundations jeopardizes the lives of thousands of families living in surrounding neighborhoods. Instead of taking swift corrective engineering action against dishonest contractors, the AIADMK administration deployed police force to suppress legitimate public oversight.

Stalin demanded the immediate and unconditional release of all detained party workers and called for an impartial technical audit of the Adyar flood protection project by independent structural engineering experts. He warned that authoritarian police crackdowns will not silence public vigilance against infrastructural corruption.
