Editorial context

DMK president M.K. Stalin strongly condemned the violent physical assault on a working television journalist who reported on the escalating political feud between state Minister K.T. Rajenthra Bhalaji and Sattur legislator Rajavarman in Virudhunagar district. Stalin demanded that the Tamil Nadu police immediately identify, arrest, and prosecute all the assailants and conspirators involved in the brazen attack. He stressed that freedom of the press is a cornerstone of democratic society that must be defended against political intimidation.

Stalin criticized the culture of political arrogance and lawlessness exhibited by ruling party ministers who operate with apparent impunity. He questioned why Governor Banwarilal Purohit and Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami maintained complete silence despite repeated instances of inflammatory rhetoric, intimidation, and open threats issued by Rajenthra Bhalaji. Stalin pointed out that when elected ministers act beyond constitutional boundaries without administrative rebuke, criminal elements feel emboldened to target journalists.

Stalin affirmed that journalists perform a vital democratic function in exposing administrative shortcomings and political corruption. He urged law enforcement agencies to discharge their duties impartially without political interference. Stalin concluded that protecting working journalists and defending press freedom remain essential to upholding the rule of law in Tamil Nadu.
