DMK president M.K. Stalin condemned the state power utility TANGEDCO for announcing that online recruitment examinations for 1,300 assessor posts would be conducted exclusively in English. Stalin described the decision as a grave injustice that severely disadvantages thousands of educated rural youth who completed their school and collegiate education through Tamil medium. He demanded that Electricity Minister P. Thangamani acknowledge the administrative error and immediately issue a revised notification enabling candidates to take the test in Tamil.
Stalin observed that state public sector undertakings operate in Tamil Nadu to serve local communities, making proficiency in the regional language an essential qualification rather than an impediment. Forcing local youth to compete solely through English-medium computer-based tests erects an arbitrary barrier against deserving candidates from disadvantaged rural and agrarian backgrounds. Stalin pointed out that such discriminatory hiring procedures violate the fundamental principles of equal employment opportunity and linguistic self-respect.
Stalin called upon the state government to mandate bilingual examination papers for all state recruitment boards and corporation tests. He emphasized that administrative services must remain accessible to local graduates. Stalin warned that failing to provide Tamil question papers will provoke widespread protests among educated youth across the state.
