Parliament is often said to be the Temple of Democracy and the BJP Govt will do well to remember this.

Urge Hon'ble Speaker to revoke the suspensions

Editorial context

DMK president M.K. Stalin expressed serious concern over the suspension of seven opposition Members of Parliament by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla during parliamentary proceedings. The parliamentarians had demanded an immediate and structured legislative discussion on the communal violence that recently devastated parts of northeast Delhi. Stalin asserted that Parliament serves as the sacred sanctum of Indian democracy, where elected representatives carry a constitutional mandate to debate pressing national issues and hold the executive accountable.

Stalin observed that suspending lawmakers for demanding discussions on law and order compromises parliamentary traditions and silences legitimate opposition voices. When hundreds of citizens suffer violence and loss of life in the national capital, Parliament cannot turn away or evade administrative scrutiny. Stalin pointed out that stifling democratic dissent inside legislative chambers weakens institutional transparency and damages public faith in representative governance.

Stalin urged the Lok Sabha Speaker to reconsider the punitive action and revoke the suspensions of all seven parliamentarians immediately. He appealed to the Union government to demonstrate democratic magnanimity and facilitate a constructive debate on communal harmony. Stalin reaffirmed that protecting parliamentary debate is essential to preserving the secular foundation and democratic fabric of the republic.
