DMK president M.K. Stalin expressed deep sorrow and outrage over a horrifying incident of female infanticide reported in Pullaneri village of Madurai district. In the reported tragedy, parents killed their second-born newborn infant girl by administering toxic cactus milk before secretly burying the child. Stalin stated that the recurrence of such barbaric practices is a heartbreaking disgrace to Tamil Nadu's progressive cultural heritage and social reform movements.
Stalin observed that female infanticide represents the most heinous manifestation of deep-seated patriarchy, gender discrimination, and economic desperation. He warned that despite decades of social development, pockets of regression persist because administrative vigilance has slackened under the current regime. Stalin criticized district healthcare departments and child protection agencies for failing to identify high-risk pregnancies and protect vulnerable newborns from fatal domestic hostility.
Stalin called upon the state government to conduct an uncompromising, comprehensive investigation, bring the culprits and facilitators to justice, and implement stringent deterrent measures. He demanded that village-level health workers and social welfare officers receive structural support to monitor vulnerable rural households. Stalin emphasized that real cultural pride demands unyielding commitment to securing the life, dignity, and rights of every infant girl.
