DMK president M.K. Stalin expressed profound anguish over recurring incidents of female infanticide in Tamil Nadu, demanding that perpetrators and accomplices face swift criminal prosecution. Highlighting a shocking incident in Madurai district, Stalin noted that such brutality inflicts a shameful blot upon Tamil Nadu's progressive cultural heritage. He condemned the ruling AIADMK government for observing ceremonial 'Girl Child Protection Days' while completely failing to implement practical safeguards for newborn girls.
Stalin criticized the state administration for treating child welfare as a public relations exercise rather than an urgent administrative responsibility. He pointed out that declining child sex ratios and unmonitored infant fatalities expose systemic breakdowns within village health networks, primary healthcare centers, and district child welfare departments. Without active social vigilance, financial support for destitute mothers, and rigorous tracking of vulnerable pregnancies, state celebrations remain empty gestures that fail to prevent tragedy.
Stalin demanded that the state police and judiciary establish special investigation units to fast-track trials and secure deterrent convictions. He called upon the administration to revitalize community monitoring systems and expand social welfare interventions for economically disadvantaged families. Stalin concluded that true governance lies in securing the fundamental right to life for every girl child.
