As global crude oil prices plunge, Union & State Govts must act swiftly to pass on the benefits to Indian consumers.
Reduction in Petrol, Diesel & LPG prices will spur economic growth.
When prices are increased during global hike, should not Govts decrease them now?
DMK president M.K. Stalin called upon the Union and state governments to immediately reduce retail prices of petrol, diesel, and liquefied petroleum gas cylinders to reflect collapsing global crude oil rates. International crude prices experienced a historic plunge, falling to multi-year lows in global commodity markets. Stalin stressed that while governments routinely hike domestic retail tariffs whenever international oil prices escalate, they must display identical promptness in passing international cost reductions directly to domestic consumers.
Stalin pointed out that reducing petroleum prices would provide immediate economic relief to hard-pressed families, commercial transport operators, farmers, and small businesses. Lowering diesel prices diminishes agricultural input costs and curbs freight transport expenditure, exerting downward pressure on food inflation. Stalin observed that cooking gas subsidies and retail cylinder price cuts directly support female homemakers managing constrained family budgets during sluggish economic growth.
Stalin urged the central administration to refrain from absorbing global price reductions through predatory excise duty hikes. He demanded that consumer welfare must take precedence over fiscal revenue maximization during economic distress. Stalin concluded that lowering energy prices remains the most practical and immediate measure to spur industrial activity, generate demand, and revitalize the national economy.
