DMK president and Leader of the Opposition M.K. Stalin demanded inside the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly that the state government adopt an official cabinet and legislative resolution rejecting the National Population Register in its existing format. Stalin criticized Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and senior ministers for evading direct commitments to protect citizens from controversial census questions. He stressed that multiple Indian states had already passed legislative resolutions halting the contentious survey to safeguard social harmony.

Stalin highlighted the acute public anxiety prevailing across Tamil Nadu, where minority communities, marginalized sections, and rural residents fear loss of citizenship rights due to lack of ancestral birth certificates. He argued that the state administration carries a constitutional responsibility to reassure citizens through formal legislative action rather than issuing ambiguous verbal assurances. Stalin pointed out that conducting the survey without removing intrusive queries would inflict severe harassment upon vulnerable families.

Stalin insisted that the ruling government must choose between defending state residents and appeasing the Union government. He warned that continued administrative inaction will intensify public protests and erode trust in democratic institutions. Stalin reaffirmed that the DMK will persistently demand legislative action to halt the divisive enumeration process.
