The release of Dr Farooq Abdullah from detention is a welcome step.
Dr Abdullah's victory over this ordeal vindicates our belief in democracy & Constitution!
I urge the Govt to revoke detentions against other leaders including @OmarAbdullah & @MehboobaMufti immediately.
DMK president M.K. Stalin welcomed the revocation of detention orders against former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference patron Dr. Farooq Abdullah. Describing Dr. Abdullah's release after seven months of confinement under the Public Safety Act as a significant vindication of constitutional principles, Stalin affirmed that arbitrary detentions cannot suppress democratic dissent. He emphasized that prolonged incarcerations of mainstream political leaders violate foundational civil liberties and damage institutional federalism.
Stalin urged the Union government to immediately revoke all pending detention orders against other Kashmiri political figures, including former Chief Ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti. He argued that the prolonged incarceration of elected representatives, legislators, and civic activists without trial contradicts India's democratic traditions. Stalin pointed out that restoring political dialogue and normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir requires the complete restoration of personal freedoms and constitutional rights.
Stalin reiterated that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has consistently defended democratic pluralism, state autonomy, and civil rights across India. He called upon the Union administration to abandon coercive statecraft and respect democratic procedures. Stalin reaffirmed that upholding constitutional values and civil liberties remains indispensable for national integrity.
