DMK president and Leader of the Opposition M.K. Stalin urged the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly to immediately adjourn its ongoing budget session to enable lawmakers to oversee epidemic containment in their home constituencies. Stalin pointed out that retaining legislators and administrative staff inside the assembly complex hindered local governance and contradicted public health warnings against congregating. He asserted that elected representatives must work on the ground, coordinating relief efforts and monitoring district health machinery.
Stalin presented a comprehensive set of administrative proposals inside the legislative chamber to mitigate impending public hardship. Citing the proactive welfare measures initiated by the neighboring Kerala government, Stalin demanded that Tamil Nadu deliver essential food rations, rice, pulses, and cooking oil directly to citizens' homes or through organized distribution. He also stressed the urgent necessity of augmenting medical infrastructure, isolation beds, and intensive care equipment in district hospitals.
Stalin emphasized that the primary responsibility of the state government during an escalating emergency is securing citizen health and food security. He appealed to the Speaker and the treasury benches to prioritize crisis management above parliamentary routine. Stalin concluded that swift administrative action and decentralized relief mechanisms will protect the vulnerable from hunger and illness.
