DMK president M.K. Stalin announced that all elected Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Members of the Legislative Assembly and Members of Parliament will donate one full month's salary to the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund. The collective financial contribution targets direct monetary assistance for unorganized sector workers whose livelihoods stand shattered by sudden coronavirus containment curbs. Stalin urged the state administration to allocate matching fiscal grants and called upon Tamil Nadu industrial houses to support vulnerable labor communities.
Informal economy workers—including construction laborers, street vendors, transport drivers, and domestic staff—suffer immediate loss of earnings whenever public mobility ceases. Stalin pointed out that daily subsistence for millions of families depends entirely on uninterrupted trade and urban commerce. Without institutional cash transfers, informal laborers face imminent impoverishment and severe nutritional distress during the unfolding health crisis.
Stalin insisted that the state government design an emergency welfare transfer mechanism to channel relief funds transparently through district trade boards and municipal databases. He appealed to private corporate entities and charitable institutions to contribute generously to state relief reserves. Stalin reiterated that collective civic solidarity and decisive state spending remain vital to sustain working families during lockdown disruptions.
