DMK president M.K. Stalin urged Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami to convene an immediate administrative consultation after the Union government ordered complete lockdowns across Chennai, Kanchipuram, and Erode districts. The central directive, effective until March 31, aimed to curtail the community transmission of coronavirus across high-density urban belts. Stalin stressed that executing stringent public movement restrictions requires immediate state-level planning to prevent catastrophic interruptions in the distribution of food, groceries, vegetables, and life-saving medicines.

Stalin observed that abrupt administrative shutdowns frequently trigger severe panic buying, arbitrary shop closures, and predatory black-market price inflation. Low-income urban families, daily wage earners, and elderly residents face acute hardship whenever basic supply lines freeze without warning. He demanded that the state government issue clear statutory instructions to district collectors and civic corporations, designating essential grocery markets, milk booths, pharmacies, and emergency logistics hubs.

Stalin called upon the state leadership to establish centralized district helplines and mobile grocery delivery networks to eliminate crowding at retail outlets. He emphasized that strict containment must balance epidemiological safety with humane governance, guaranteeing that no vulnerable citizen goes hungry during the crisis.
