Demonstrating responsible legislative leadership, DMK president and Leader of the Opposition M.K. Stalin demanded the immediate adjournment of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly session to prevent viral transmission. Stalin pointed out that continuing assembly proceedings while advising the public against social gatherings sets a contradictory and irresponsible example. He stressed that elected lawmakers and administrative machinery must dedicate their complete energy, time, and focus to managing the unfolding coronavirus crisis rather than engaging in routine legislative debates.

Simultaneously, Stalin urged the state administration to initiate emergency welfare measures to provide cooked meals, clean drinking water, and dry rations to daily wage earners, pavement dwellers, and destitute beggars. He emphasized that these highly marginalized urban populations are the most acutely vulnerable to starvation when commercial activities, tea shops, and informal eateries close under public health restrictions. Protecting homeless and destitute citizens is an urgent humanitarian duty that cannot be deferred.

Stalin called upon the Chief Minister to mobilize community kitchens, municipal shelters, and mobile food distribution units across all cities and towns. He reaffirmed that the DMK will extend full legislative and grassroots cooperation to every effective measure protecting public life during the pandemic.
