Editorial context

DMK president M.K. Stalin strongly criticized the Tamil Nadu government for its chaotic handling of public transport preceding the imposition of statewide prohibitory orders under Section 144. Stalin pointed out that thousands of outstation workers, students, and daily wage earners were stranded on city streets and bus terminals across Chennai due to an abrupt, unannounced reduction in bus services. He questioned whether the administration lacked the basic foresight to realize that slashing transport links would trap helpless citizens away from their homes.

Stalin highlighted the hazardous overcrowding that ensued at major transit hubs like CMBT in Koyambedu, where desperate travelers were forced into tight crowds, completely defeating the purpose of epidemic containment. Leaving thousands of migrant workers stranded without food, shelter, or transport during a health emergency represents severe administrative negligence. He demanded that the state transport department immediately operate extra bus fleets with free travel allowances to transport all stranded citizens safely to their native districts.

Stalin urged the government to implement humane, well-coordinated transit solutions before enforcing rigid curfews. He emphasized that administrative planning must protect vulnerable commuters rather than subjecting them to hardship. Stalin affirmed that the DMK will persistently demand responsible governance and citizen-centric disaster management.
