DMK president M.K. Stalin issued a compelling call for national unity, stating that all state governments must work hand-in-hand with the Union government across political lines to defeat the coronavirus pandemic. Stalin remarked that the scale of the public health emergency transcends partisan boundaries, requiring ruling and opposition parties across India to stand together as a united front. In this critical hour, he stressed that national survival and collective welfare must be the sole guiding priorities of all political formations.
Stalin emphasized that while state administrations stand on the frontlines managing hospital infrastructure, contact tracing, and community relief, their financial resources are severely depleted due to economic halts. He urged the Union government to exhibit broad-minded fiscal generosity and promptly release disaster management funds and GST compensation requested by provincial administrations. Delaying or trimming financial allocations to states cripples grassroots healthcare responses.
Stalin reaffirmed that the DMK will maintain an unwavering spirit of national solidarity, extending total support to evidence-based containment measures. He called on the central leadership to respect constitutional federalism by treating all states equitably and providing robust fiscal backing. Stalin concluded that overcoming the pandemic depends on mutual trust and robust collaboration between central and provincial authorities.
