DMK president M.K. Stalin urged the Tamil Nadu government to rectify severe deficiencies in its pandemic relief announcement and provide substantial financial support to vulnerable citizens. Stalin argued that the meager one thousand rupee transfer announced by the administration is grossly insufficient for families enduring weeks of complete wage loss. He demanded that the cash assistance be increased to five thousand rupees for all family ration cardholders to ensure real economic survival during the lockdown period.
Stalin called upon the government to suspend the collection of cooperative loan installments, electricity bill tariffs, drinking water charges, and property taxes during the crisis. Enforcing debt collections and utility bills while citizens are confined to their homes creates intolerable financial distress. He also highlighted the urgent predicament of cultivators whose standing crops, vegetables, and perishable produce are rotting due to transportation bottlenecks, demanding a specialized agricultural relief and procurement package.
Stalin emphasized that the state administration must adopt proactive, compassionate fiscal measures rather than token administrative gestures. Providing adequate financial cushioning protects grassroots purchasing power, prevents rural indebtedness, and preserves social stability. Stalin affirmed that the DMK will persistently champion comprehensive economic relief until every farmer, worker, and vulnerable family receives equitable support.
