DMK president M.K. Stalin issued an urgent appeal to the Prime Minister's Office and the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, requesting immediate measures to evacuate four hundred thirty Tamil families stranded in Indonesia. Stalin highlighted that these families, comprising working professionals, students, and tourists, were left stranded following the abrupt suspension of international commercial aviation due to the pandemic. Anxious to reunite with their relatives, the stranded citizens faced severe logistical, accommodation, and financial uncertainties in a foreign country.

Stalin urged the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy in Jakarta to coordinate special chartered evacuation flights to bring citizens safely back to Tamil Nadu. He emphasized that the state government must collaborate with central aviation authorities to prepare quarantine arrangements and medical screening upon arrival at Chennai and Tiruchirappalli airports. Extending prompt assistance to citizens stranded overseas during global health crises is a paramount sovereign duty.

Stalin affirmed that the DMK will consistently advocate for the welfare of the global Tamil diaspora. He called upon authorities to establish dedicated helplines and consular support channels for stranded nationals.
