Editorial context

Acting decisively upon distress messages from displaced workers, DMK president M.K. Stalin intervened with the Maharashtra government to protect one hundred twenty small vendors from Tamil Nadu stranded in Mumbai. Stalin alerted Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and minister Aaditya Thackeray that these informal vendors were confined at the ML Camp in Matunga without reliable access to food, safe drinking water, or hygienic shelter. He requested immediate administrative mobilization to distribute emergency supplies and safeguard their physical well-being.

Stalin facilitated coordination by providing the telephone details of Rasamurugesan, head of the Tamil Nadu Small Vendors Development Association, enabling municipal authorities to locate the workers quickly. He highlighted that seasonal street vendors depend on daily sales to afford basic sustenance and shelter. With commercial activities completely halted, these workers were left destitute in an unfamiliar urban environment without local social support or financial safety nets.

Stalin commended the Maharashtra administration for its prompt willingness to organize relief packages. He affirmed that the DMK will persistently track the situation until every stranded vendor receives adequate sustenance and medical care. Stalin emphasized that cross-border political vigilance and administrative empathy are essential to defend vulnerable citizens during national emergencies.
