DMK president M.K. Stalin criticized the Union government's fiscal priorities, pointing out that allocating disproportionately meager disaster funds to Tamil Nadu while abruptly freezing parliamentarian constituency development allocations contradicts basic democratic norms. Stalin argued that taking away developmental funds from elected representatives directly hampers localized medical procurement and community relief. He urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to halt massive discretionary expenditures, specifically the twenty thousand crore rupee Central Vista redevelopment project in the national capital, and redirect those colossal resources to state healthcare systems.
Stalin asserted that spending enormous public revenues on new administrative edifices during an unprecedented humanitarian crisis is indefensible. The country urgently requires expanded testing laboratories, life-saving ventilators, affordable medicines, and direct financial transfers for impoverished citizens struggling under lockdown conditions. Depriving provincial administrations of revenue while centralizing financial discretion cripples states standing on the frontline of epidemic containment.
Stalin demanded that the central government disburse fair, transparent financial packages to all states based on health burdens and population requirements. He emphasized that genuine democratic governance puts citizen survival and social protection above vanity projects. Stalin affirmed that the DMK will continue demanding fiscal justice and responsible economic management from the Union leadership.
