DMK president M.K. Stalin expressed heartfelt grief over the tragic demise of Mylapore traffic police personnel Arun Gandhi, who suffered a fatal heart attack while performing rigorous lockdown security duty in Chennai. Stalin extended his profound condolences and emotional solidarity to the bereaved family members, colleagues, and friends. He observed that frontline police personnel carry an immense responsibility in enforcing emergency protocols under grueling physical circumstances, deserving utmost institutional care and empathy.
Stalin emphasized that the prolonged emergency has imposed severe physical exhaustion and emotional strain upon law enforcement officers across Tamil Nadu. Working long hours under harsh summer heat while managing public movements elevates health risks among frontline personnel. He urged the Director General of Police and the state government to implement humane shift rotations, provide nutritious refreshments, and ensure periodic health checkups to alleviate excessive fatigue and psychological stress.
Stalin called upon the government to disburse prompt ex-gratia compensation and comprehensive social security benefits to the deceased officer's dependents. He reiterated that protecting frontline defenders is a vital state obligation. Stalin emphasized that administrative vigilance, empathetic leadership, and adequate welfare safeguards are essential to sustain police morale during emergency operations.
