DMK president M.K. Stalin responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's national address extending the coronavirus lockdown, emphasizing that public health awareness must accompany substantial economic sustenance. While acknowledging the value of preventive health guidelines, Stalin stressed that millions of impoverished citizens, daily laborers, and small vendors cannot survive protracted restrictions without direct financial aid. He urged the Union government to announce concrete fiscal measures and material relief packages rather than limiting official communication to behavioral advice.
Stalin noted that prolonged confinement without earnings has pushed vulnerable families into severe distress across urban centers and rural hamlets. The informal workforce requires immediate cash deposits into bank accounts and free food grains to stave off hunger. He asked when the central leadership would address urgent citizen queries regarding wage compensation, rent moratoriums, agricultural distress, and small business survival during the extended lockdown.
Stalin reiterated that successful pandemic control requires robust public trust and adequate social safety nets. He called on the Union government to disburse substantial relief funds to states so provincial administrations can sustain local healthcare infrastructure and emergency welfare programs. Stalin affirmed that the DMK will persistently champion the urgent economic needs of working-class families.
