DMK president M.K. Stalin welcomed a significant ruling by the Madras High Court that recognized the fundamental necessity of humanitarian relief during the coronavirus lockdown. The court affirmed that political parties and voluntary organizations possess the legal right to distribute food and essential provisions to destitute citizens, provided they adhere strictly to personal hygiene and physical distancing regulations. Stalin commended the judiciary for upholding public compassion, charity, and civic duty during an unprecedented health crisis.
The ruling arrived after the state administration attempted to monopolize aid channels and restrict grassroots humanitarian initiatives. Stalin stressed that thousands of vulnerable daily wage earners, pavement dwellers, and informal sector workers face acute hunger due to restricted economic activity. Preventing voluntary organizations from distributing cooked meals and groceries only deepened public misery across Tamil Nadu.
Stalin directed all DMK cadres, legislators, and parliamentarians to execute the court directives scrupulously while assisting vulnerable communities. He instructed workers to coordinate effectively with local municipal officials and health authorities to guarantee safe delivery without crowding. Stalin reiterated that saving impoverished families from starvation remains the foremost duty of every public representative during the pandemic.
