DMK president M.K. Stalin expressed profound shock and concern over tragic patient fatalities and severe administrative deficiencies reported at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH) in Chennai, holding the callous neglect of health administrators responsible for the worsening hospital conditions. Stalin pointed out that the failure to establish adequate infection control protocols, supply personal protective gear, and organize proper isolation facilities had created an environment of fear where even resident doctors hesitated to approach critically ill patients in emergency wards.
Stalin emphasized that the primary responsibility for this alarming medical breakdown rests squarely upon the state government, which failed to equip premier tertiary hospitals with necessary protective equipment, diagnostic resources, and support personnel. Abandoning medical professionals on the frontlines without essential personal protective equipment compromises clinical care and endangers both vulnerable patients and dedicated healthcare providers.
Stalin demanded that the Tamil Nadu government provide a transparent public explanation regarding the safety lapses and implement immediate corrective measures across all state medical colleges. He affirmed that the DMK will vigorously advocate for comprehensive medical safety protocols and protective gear for healthcare staff across Tamil Nadu.
