DMK president M.K. Stalin censured Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami after serious tender irregularities within the state Highways Department, a portfolio held directly by the Chief Minister, were scrutinized and exposed before the Madras High Court during the pandemic lockdown. Stalin questioned the suspicious administrative haste in finalizing lucrative infrastructure procurement contracts during an unprecedented public health disaster, asking whether such rushed financial awards constituted the government's definition of wartime emergency operations.
Stalin pointed out that while healthcare institutions faced severe shortages of diagnostic supplies, protective equipment, and intensive care beds, the ruling establishment focused its primary bureaucratic energy on distributing massive public works contracts to favored commercial syndicates. Misusing lockdown conditions to bypass transparent competitive bidding and evade public scrutiny reflects profound ethical degeneration within the administration. He emphasized that diverting public funds toward private enrichment during a national calamity represents an unpardonable betrayal of public trust.
Stalin affirmed that the DMK will hold the corrupt administration accountable before the judiciary and the electorate. He warned that all lockdown corruption, tender manipulations, and illicit pandemic profiteering will face rigorous public investigation.
